What shipping boxes do we provide?

Our international shippers provide robust boxes to protect your possessions during long shipments. Made from double-walled, chemically-strengthened cardboard, our most popular containers are Large and Standard (see below for precise dimensions). Order more than you think you need. If you have any unused containers left over in brand-new condition, we'll collect them at no extra charge.

Specially-shaped containers made from the same materials are available for large items, such as guitars and bikes. Before collection, please wrap these goods securely. We'll then transport them to our nearest depot and box them.

You can use your own containers. But please avoid laundry bags, plastic crates, used food boxes and bin liners — they break easily and are likely to damage the rest of your possessions. Are you looking to ship large household items like sofas and microwaves? If so, our international removals service, the MoveCube®, offers the best price.

We make sending luggage from China to France easy. Our experienced worldwide shippers take care of quarantine and customs inspections for you. But, there are some important regulations you should be aware of.

As with all countries worldwide, France has a list of banned items to protect its people and the environment. Please check our regularly-updated Prohibited Goods page before packing to avoid customs charges or delays.

Log in to your online account and complete the following documents:

  • An Inventory listing all the items you're shipping. French customs officials will see this, so accuracy is crucial.
  • Optional insurance forms to cover your goods in the rare case they become lost or suffer damage.
  • Colour scans of the shipment owner's passport picture and signature pages.

European Union (EU) members can import used personal goods duty and tax-free. If you're arriving from a non-EU country, any items less than six months old will incur a charge of 20% VAT. Plus, you must import your goods within a year of arrival.

Please note that French customs officials may request that the shipment owner be present before their belongings arrive.

Ship luggage worldwide with this easy packing guide

Consider hiring a packing service to ensure your possessions arrive unscathed. Otherwise, set aside time to wrap and pack every item, and follow our helpful 4-step guide below.

For more detailed advice, check out our How to choose a box for shipping and Preparing large items for collection pages.

Icon one

Secure your boxes:

Gather all your packing materials together, such as parcel tape and scissors. Seal your container's base by folding in the small flaps, then the large flaps, and wrapping them shut with three layers of overlapping parcel tape.

Cover exposed edges with more parcel tape, then tightly seal all around the bottom of your box. Once full, secure the lid using the same process.

Icon two

Be careful with fragile goods:

Use bubble wrap to protect all items and several layers for delicate goods and items of value. Place heavy items at the bottom layer and lighter things above and away from the sides of your box.

Fill gaps with soft materials like packing paper or towels. Give your container a little shake. If it makes a sound, add more padding until it stops.

Icon three

Complete your online Inventory:

Log in to your account and fill out your inventory as you pack, listing every item you're shipping. French customs officials will ask to see it, so accuracy is necessary.

With a marker pen, write the job number, box number, and shipment owner's destination country and city on two sides of each container. Reference your inventory to ensure accuracy.

Icon four

Prepare for collection day:

Each container must weigh no more than 30kg/66lbs for your and our driver's safety. Weigh all boxes or bags on bathroom scales. If a container is too heavy, move items to a lighter container.

Finally, move all your boxes, bags and suitcases as close to your building's entrance as possible. Doing so ensures a smooth collection day experience.

I am so happy I chose Seven Seas Worldwide. Shipping three boxes to France was super quick and safe. I was really scared of sending stuff overseas, but it went really well. They kept me up to date at every step of the process, and calling customer service was quick and effective. They even provide you with packing materials. Much better than a traditional shipping company.
